CONWAY CENTRAL STATION
Convenience store staff fired up about fill-ups
Black brick, flames and windows re- sembling those of a fire station might not be what immediately come to mind when thinking of a convenience store, but Con- way Central Station is anything but typical.
The station includes a restaurant, and owners Diana and Phil Kirkland decided to decorate with a firefighter theme — in- side and out — to give a nod to Phil’s more than 24 years dedicated to the Conway Fire Department, as well as honoring all fire- fighters, Diana said.
“Our mission is to serve incredibly good food in a hometown atmosphere and allow our customers to enjoy the décor that rep- resents our firefighters, past and present, who risk their lives to serve and protect our community,” she said.
At Conway Central Station, customers will also find a full-service gas station that offers ethanol-free gasoline. The station is led by Gary Duncan, who has been with the store since the Kirklands purchased it in February 2013 and its opening in October 2014; he also worked at the Kirklands’ previous store.
“We had sold our other convenience store and wanted this downtown location to
bring back a neighborhood feel in a conve- nience store,” Diana said. “The day that we closed on this downtown location was our proudest moment as local business owners.”
With a new location came an import- ant new face at Conway Central Station. Diana said Sheila Hicks, who runs the restaurant located inside the station, brings more than 54 years of restaurant experience to the station. The restaurant offers a breakfast and lunch menu and is open from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mon- day through Friday. Selections include hand-pattied burgers, fresh pies, pickle fries and catfish, as well as breakfast spe- cialties and daily lunch specials.
Conway Central Station also offers F’Real milkshakes, ICEEs, coffee, tea, cooler drinks and fountain drinks, along with snacks, chips candy bars and more. The store is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
