Customer-focused atmosphere invites shoppers to rest easy
For 25 years, Denver Mattress has been in the business of promoting better sleep. With locations in North Little Rock,
Conway and Springdale, the family- owned, factory-direct retailer has been a dream come true for Arkansas Democrat- Gazette readers, who voted the company Best Mattress Store in the newspaper’s 2020 Best of the Best contest.
“I’m excited. Who wouldn’t be excit- ed?” said Diana Hunter, store manager of the North Little Rock location. “We just make sure that every customer has the best experience they can.”
That eye for customer satisfaction surpasses the drive for profit, she added. “It’s never about the money for us. We believe that if you take care of cus- tomers the right way, everything else follows,” she said. “The atmosphere is
the best thing about us because we’re not trying to push people to get some- thing they can’t afford or don’t need. We’re ultimately trying to find the best fit for each customer.”
A great mattress is important, she added, because sleep quality affects ev- ery aspect of a person’s life, from one’s mood to physical health.
“People usually leave here with a big smile,” she said. “We’ve had customers call us crying because they’re so happy that they have a mattress that they love, and for the first time in years, they woke up without pain.”
Staff members receive six weeks of product-knowledge and customer- service training before they hit the sales floor. Then they undergo an additional week of training in Denver, she said. When customers walk through the
door, the sales team helps them find their ideal mattress from the store’s offerings, which include brands such as Tempur-Pedic, Purple and Sealy, as well as Denver Mattress products.
Hunter said staff members go above and beyond to serve customers by de- livering mattresses, setting up adjust- able bases or even directing patrons to a competitor when needed.
“We wouldn’t be where we are if we weren’t a good team,” she said. “We’re very specific on what we hire people for, and we look for honesty, integrity and good character. Those are the main points we always look for.”
The company’s family ownership helps foster warm relationships among staff members, she added.
“The family values kind of flow into the stores,” she said. “This is the fifth
store I’ve worked at for Denver Mattress now, and at each store, everybody’s re- ally close.”
In addition, she said, staff members provide feedback to help the company develop better products. Experimentation geared toward developing top-quality mattresses has been a hallmark of the brand and its parent company, Furniture Row, since Denver Mattress started in 1988, when it began producing waterbed inserts, she added.
The company is now looking at making its own foam and coils to further improve its mattresses, she said, adding that her team hopes to continue providing top- notch service to central Arkansas.
“Ultimately, we just want to contin- ue to be the best and get people taken care of properly,” she said. “That’s al- ways the goal.”
