RIVER VALLEY & OZARK EDITION OF THE ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE • HOMETOWN MORRILTON SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2017 3VV
Petit Jean Meats, best known for producing meat with the finest traditional Arkansas fla- vor, traces its lineage to Germany. It all started with Felix Schlosser in 1922. Times were hard in Germany, and Schlosser was looking for a bet- ter life. He immigrated to Arkansas and found employment with the Little Rock Packing Co. He then moved to Morrilton, where he made his home near his cousin, Mary Ruff, and start- ed the business that would become Petit Jean Meats. Mary’s sons, Edward and Lonnie, made home deliveries of meat on their bicycles.
GOOD TO KNOW: Today, Edward’s son and grandsons operate and manage the plant. Even with improvements in equipment, they do things the old-fash- ioned way, which gives the meats their old-fashioned flavor. The company can ship products anywhere in the continen- tal United States. The newest products are Petit Jean All-Beef Franks and Petit Jean Hickory Smoked Snack Sticks. Cus- tomers can place orders online at www. pjmeats.com.
