Breanna Tyler, from left, Maleah Starks and Christian Tyler show their patriotism during the 2015 Pops on the River celebration at the First Security Amphitheater.
To honor the troops, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will perform the song of each branch of the military — the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy. At that time, current and former members of each branch will be asked to stand and be recognized while their branch’s song is played.
“We are not always aware of the sacrifices our military members and their families make to safeguard us and ensure our way of life,” Copley said. “That is why we at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette are proud to rec- ognize and celebrate our military com- munity on the Fourth of July.”
Another way to honor the troops will be at the Military Appreciation Tent. Located near the event’s main entrance, this tent is where military members can pick up some cool free- bies, reserved seating for the concert and a discount card that can be used at participating vendors in the mar- ketplace. At the tent, active, reserve or retired military personnel can get
free sunglasses, koozies and more, while vendors will be giving away American flags and other items while supplies last. Vendors will also offer discounts on food and drink with the Pops Military Appreciation Discount Card. Starting at 5 p.m., the first 100 military members who request a re- served seat in the amphitheater for the concert will get assigned seating for free.
“Be sure to check out this tent early in the evening,” Copley said. “All you need to do is bring your military ID.”
Copley added that honoring mem- bers of the military is always the high- light of the event.
“It’s a remarkable opportunity for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette to be able to take time during the Fourth of July to not only celebrate our country’s independence with our long-standing free, family-friendly festival, but to be able to recognize the Arkansans who helped and con- tinue to help maintain that indepen- dence,” she said.
