POPS ON THE RIVER
SUNDAY, JULY 3, 2016 3K
★ FESTIVITIES ★
Attendees at Pops on the River will have loads of options for entertainment, ranging from having a caricature of themselves done by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s own cartoonist John Deering to enjoying the savory flavors from the various food trucks that will be in attendance. The caricatures will be drawn all day for $10 each, with proceeds going to the March of Dimes.
Activities in the Kids Pavilion will take place from noon to 8 p.m., and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital GoNoodle mascot, Champ, will give away goodies. Children will also have the opportunity to have their faces painted. Other children’s activities will include the Delta Dental Smile photo booth, a magician, bounce houses, Acansa Arts Festival crafts and the Little Readers Rock bookmaking station.
Adults can attend the Pops Classic Car Show from noon to 5 p.m. at Ottenheimer Plaza. The car show will feature the top 10 classic cars, which will be chosen by popular vote.
★ MILITARY ★
Pops on the River will continue its
Military Appreciation Program, during which all military personnel — active, retired and reserve — can receive special discounts and promotions at the event and after the event. Military members will need to check in at the gate for registration. They will receive a Military Appreciation Discount Card for themselves and their families. This card will provide them with special deals, including discounts on food and refreshments, at the event. Starting at 5 p.m., the first 100 members who request a reserved seat in the amphitheater for the concert that evening will get assigned seating for free.
At one point during the night, attendees and event participants will take a moment to recognize members of their respective branch in the military and give an Armed Forces Salute with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Active and retired members will be asked to stand and be recognized during the event.
★ VOCALS ★
Finalists of the Oh Say! Can you Sing?
contest will perform at the First Security Amphitheater starting at 6:30 p.m. The
crowd, along with a panel of judges, will help determine who will sing the national anthem with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. The winner of the contest will also receive a $300 prize.
★ MUSIC ★
The Ride 106.7, Little Rock’s New Country, will provide musical entertainment.
Drew Mitchell and Amber Glaze of Hot Mess in the Morning with Amber and Drew, 106.7 The Ride’s morning show, will be judges in the Oh Say! Can You Sing? singing contest. Amber said she hopes people will be able to see what the radio station has to offer while they’re at the event.
“We hope they see how much we love our community and how honored we feel to wake up with this city every weekday morning,” she said. “We are super down to earth, and we honestly just feel very lucky to work together in an environment that allows us to be our awkward, dorky selves.”
Amber and Drew will broadcast live from Pops on the River from 3-6 p.m. and will kick off the Oh Say! Can You Sing? contest by performing two live songs.

★ FINALE ★
The finale this year will again feature water cakes, a special firework that creates a fire effect on the surface of water. These will be in the fireworks display at least four times. On each occasion, there will be a different effect. Along with the water cakes, there will be other aerials for the crowd to enjoy.
Copley said she is excited about the event and the continual growth it sees.
“Pops grows every year. It’s always going to be the best traditional Fourth of July event that everyone can enjoy,” she said.
