CAREER
PROFILE
Jill Jennings, M.D.
Obstetrician/Gynecologist The Woman’s Clinic Little Rock
Q: What made you decide to become an OB-GYN? A: I love the variety it offers with clinic, surgery and deliveries. I really enjoy taking care of women during different phases of their lives, and it is such an honor to be part of bringing babies into the world.
Q: How long have you been in your career?
A: I finished medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 2007 and OB/GYN residency at the University of Oklahoma in 2011. I have been in private practice since that time.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter your career field?
A: It is a very long road, and with determination you can make it, but you will have to sacrifice along the way. It is very rewarding in the end.
Q: What is the hardest part of your job?
A: Finding a work-life balance. This has been especially hard since the birth of my first child. Going back to work full time, taking call and helping to run a business, all while being a full-time mom has been a challenge, but I have such a wonderful support system that makes it all possible.
Q: Who in your career field inspires you?
A: The older physicians I have worked with over the years who really know their patients without even having to look at a chart. They have usually delivered babies and grandbabies all in the same family. Their patients really love and respect them, and that is the relationship I strive for with my patients.
Q: What is a typical work schedule for an OB-GYN? A: I have clinic three days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., call one day a week over a 24-hour period — where we do all the deliveries during that time period — and surgery one day a week, where I am just in the operating room. There are many days when I am not on call that something will bring me in earlier or keep me later for a special delivery. No two days are every exactly the same, and it definitely keeps me on my toes.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A: Bringing new life into the world and helping to create a family.
