SOWELL ARCHITECTS INC.
Company builds on 20 years of service
Celebrating serving Conway and Faulk- ner County for two decades this month, Sowell Architects Inc. has had a hand in the design of many of the area’s commer- cial and religious landmarks and has built a solid reputation for providing quality work.
It’s a big year for the company, said Rik Sowell, president and founder.
“We are grateful for all the projects that have been entrusted to us. We try to con- duct our business according to Christian principles, realizing that all we are and all we have, come from above,” Sowell said. “I am blessed to have a great staff, includ- ing two local architects — Elizabeth Huff Hamilton and Joanna Nabholz — who serve as my project managers. We are com- mitted to this area and intend to continue to impact the River Valley by offering at- tractive and functional places to live, work and play for another 20 years and beyond.”
The company is a full-service architectur- al firm offering a variety of design-related services from site analysis and interior
design to building design and construc- tion supervision and everything in be- tween, with its primary focus on com- mercial and religious projects including office buildings, clinics, shopping centers, retail spaces, schools and churches.
“Our approach to our work is simple. Treat each client like they are the on- ly one in the office and give them the best service you can,” Sowell said. “Our goal is to have a happy client at the end when they occupy and use their building. The design of their building is a result of their needs and their vision, not ours. We want them to walk into the finished product and say, ‘This is exactly what we needed.’ It should be a testament to them and not what the architect thought it should be.”
Sowell and the other architects with the firm enjoy the broad range of activities involved with their work.
“We are a small firm so everyone gets to do a little of everything — designing,

drawing, bidding, observing construc- tion, selecting colors, writing specs, meet- ing with clients, etc.,” Sowell said. “My favorite thing is the design process. You have to combine the client’s program and all the building-code requirements into an attractive and functional building.”
As one might expect, the tangible aspect of creating something concrete is also a satisfying part of the work for
Sowell and his team.
“When you walk into a building upon
completion, there is tremendous satisfac- tion in knowing that environment was con- ceived in your head and that it feels exactly the way you envisioned it,” Sowell said.
