Tone it up
PLANNING DIVERSE WORKOUTS EARLY ON HELPS BRIDES AND GROOMS GET A HEAD START ON WEDDING FITNESS GOALS
For brides, grooms and members of wedding parties looking to tone up for the wedding, committing to a workout routine early on that focuses on cardio and strength training can give
them plenty of time to reach their tness goals.
Starting off small and gradually building a tness routine is one way brides and grooms can ensure a workout plan for the long haul. Starting off too intensely may cause burnout or frustration as a result of setting up unrealistic expectations. That is why getting an early start is recommended, so there is plenty of time to get to know one’s body and work with one’s
own strengths and weaknesses.
Lisa Duke of Orangetheory Fitness in Little Rock said a
good way to know one’s body while working out is to wear a heart-rate monitor, which is a unique aspect of Orangetheory Fitness.
“We do heart-rate-based interval training, and everyone wears a heart-rate monitor so trainers can see if people are overtraining or undertraining and adapt their workout to that,” Duke said.
Brides and grooms can plan workouts together and even include their wedding party in things like group runs, bike rides, yoga sessions, weight lifting and more. If there are target areas such as the back, arms and waist that may especially need to be toned up, exercises such as pushups, squat jumps and crisscross crunches are effective, and brides and grooms can easily do them together. Playful high- ves and kisses can even be incorporated after each rep.
Some gyms, such as Orangetheory Fitness, also provide private tness classes dedicated to helping wedding parties tone up for the big day.
“We see a lot of brides, grooms and their wedding parties and work with them around their schedule so they see the results they want and more,” Duke said.

“Utilizing both cardio and strength training is the best way to reach your goals. Cardio works well by itself, but if you really want to see results, strength training is necessary. Orangetheory Fitness incorporates both, and we work so that our clients see the outcome they’re hoping for, once we know what their tness goals are.”
