THE EVENT
fter the vows are said and dinner is served, it’s time to party.
Many couples turn to DJs or bands to create a fun atmosphere at the reception, where guests can dance the night away, but there are some elements a couple can use to make the dance oor even more
memorable.
The rst thing to consider is the dance oor itself. While
many venues’ standard ooring is perfectly ne for dancing, a portable dance oor — one that is placed on the oor — can offer a number of bene ts. One is that a portable dance oor creates a de ned area for dancing. These dance oors also come in a variety of styles and materials, such as parquet or white vinyl, which can help match the decor or wedding colors. Dance oors that light up are also available for a more dramatic effect.
“The right dance oor makes the space inviting, lets your guests know where to dance and gets them involved,” said Joe Snell, owner of Central Arkansas Entertainment. “You de nitely want to nd a company that specializes in dance oors and lighting.”
Another element to consider is having a raised stage for the band or DJ. A stage will lift the band or DJ above the crowd
and bring them more attention. Ask your entertainment providers how much space they will need for the stage and what power requirements they have.
“A good production company will know how much power they need,” he said. “If the couple goes with a great produc- tion company, that company should be able to tell them what’s required.”
Lighting is another factor to think about. Some bands and DJs provide their own lights, which can be programmed to move with the music, but there are other ways to add lighting. String lights hanging above the dance oor can create a romantic mood, and up-lighting around the perimeter of the room can add atmosphere as well.
“The right lighting in the room can set the mood and ambiance,” Snell said.
Other elements that Snell suggested include cold-spark fountains, which shoot sparks into the air similar to something one might see at a big concert. Fog machines can also be used to create ambiance, enhance entrances, and highlight the rst dance and even the couple’s exit.
