The McCrory Jaguars are moving into a new conference, but their expecta- tions remain the same.
The Jaguars finished the 2017 sea- son at 7-2, falling to Bearden 44-42 in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs. McCrory finished second in the 2A-6 at 7-1 behind Hazen, which won the conference undefeated. This year, McCrory is in the 2A-3 with Midland, Marked Tree, Cross County, East
Poinsett County and Rector.
“I don’t know much about them,” McCrory
coach Chris Kennon said of the team’s new conference opponents. “I haven’t seen those guys in four years. I know Cross County is go- ing to be big and physical. It’s the best group they’ve had in years coming through. I expect those guys to be really good.
“EPC is always tough, and they’ll have ath- letes. But I haven’t seen those teams enough to know much. I’m kind of up in the air about it.”
Kennon said his team will play at Cross County in Week 5 and at EPC in Week 6.
“I feel like we can play with them,” he said. “If we’re injury-free, our kids feel like they can compete for a title.”
Junior Sam Brown (5-6, 135) started at quarterback for the Jaguars in their scrim- mage game at Palestine-Wheatley on Monday.
