The holidays are just around the corner, and to get in the spirit, there are dozens of movies available that are classics of the season. Here is a short list (in no particular order) of family-friendly holiday movies everyone can enjoy.

Based on the classic Charles Dickens novel, this retelling, starring Jim Henson’s Mup- pets, features songs by Academy Award winner Paul Williams, lots of laughs and a heartwarming story.

What happens when one of Santa’s elves hits the streets of New York City? In Elf, Buddy, played by Saturday Night Live alum Will Ferrell, is hilarious as he returns to the human world to find his father.
HOME ALONE
After being forgotten and left behind as his family leaves for a Christmas vacation overseas, young Kevin McCalister, played by Macaulay Culkin, must defend his home against two determined burglars.
A CHRISTMAS STORY
One of the most loved holiday films, A Christmas Story is the narrative of a man re- telling his account of one family Christmas and his quest to get Santa to bring him a Red Ryder BB Gun.
MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET
When a man is hired to play Santa at Ma- cy’s department store, he claims to be the real Kris Kringle. When the Santa is put on trial, however, a Christmas miracle reveals his true identity.
RUDOLPH, THE REDNOSED REINDEER
This classic film tells the origin of “the most famous reindeer of all.” With its charming stop-motion animation, colorful characters and entertaining story, this film is a staple of almost every holiday home.
THE POLAR EXPRESS
Starring a motion-captured and animated Tom Hanks, The Polar Express is about a boy who boards a mysterious train bound for the north pole.
EMMETT OTTER’S
JUGBAND CHRISTMAS
Another Jim Henson classic, this film tells
of Ma and Emmett Otter, who enter a local talent show to try to win a $50 prize but face competition from a rival band.
MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS
Starring Judy Garland, this film follows 17-year- old Esther, who falls in love with John, the boy next door. When the family finds out Esther’s father has been transferred to New York, the family must move just before the 1904 World’s Fair. The film features the musical classics“The Trolley Song” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
