What have you enjoyed most about your job as Lyon College president?
The people who I have the pleasure of working with
on a daily basis
What do you do when you’re not at your desk at the college?
I spend time with friends and walk around our
gorgeous campus.
How long have you lived in Batesville?
I have lived in Batesville twice, for a total of 23 years.
What’s the best-kept secret in Batesville?
Lyon College
What are some of your hobbies?
I read, walk, and when time permits, I sail.
Do you have kids? If so, what makes Batesville a great place to raise a family?
My two adult children grew up in Batesville. It was a great place to raise a family because of the fine schools and the caring community.
What should people that come to Batesville make sure they do?
I recommend almost any outdoor activity, but es- pecially the mountain bike trail on the bluff at the college.
What is something about Lyon College that you wish more people were familiar with?
I wish more people knew what an exceptional learn- ing community the college provides for its students.

Getting to work with local students and teach them
about our local history
What do you do for fun in Batesville?
Fish and hunt
How long have you lived in Batesville?
Six years
What is something in Batesville that maybe everyone does not know about?
I would say how good the fishing is on the White River.
That’s not really a secret, but maybe in Batesville it is.
What makes Batesville a good choice for people to live?
The nice people, and there are a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy and good public places to go, like the museum and the library.
When people come to Batesville, what are some things they must stop by and see?
Well the museum, of course, and Riverside Park. When the Melba Theater opens back up, I would highly recommend the Melba.
What is something you wish more people knew about the museum?
We house the earliest history of Batesville and the surrounding counties, and we preserve that history and interpret it through our award-winning exhibits.

What part of being the director of the Arkansas Scottish Festival is most gratifying?
Meeting new people
What activities can people look forward to at the Scottish festival?
The Scottish festival has both kids’ games and bounce houses, as well as other activities geared toward the kids. We have a Great Adventure Race with cash prizes geared to the adults.This is huge fun.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Fish and hunt
How long have you lived in Batesville?
I have been in Batesville since 2003.
What in Batesville would you consider a “hidden gem?”
Personally, I think it is the outdoor activities — great
fishing and boating on the White River.
What do you think makes Batesville family-friendly?
Excellent schools. Both of our kids are married and away from home now — one in Chattanooga and the other in Denver.
What sights/sounds do you recommend for visitors to Batesville?
Folks need to experience the different restau- rants in town, especially if they like barbecue. Several places have live music on the weekends.
