Since its inception, Salter Construc- tion Inc. in Conway has navigated industry changes, pursued new op-
portunities and built a reputation that will allow it to continue growing, founder and CEO Gene Salter said.
“With more than 40 years of lessons learned, we incorporate that experience into everything that we do,” he said. Those lessons give us the insight and knowledge necessary to deliver maximum value to our clients and are a major reason we are recognized as a leader in the construction industry.”
Salter built his first home for his family members while working for their mechan- ical business, and then built another house on speculation, he said. He continued to focus on construction opportunities and formed Salter Construction in 1976.
The business offers general contracting for commercial and residential construc- tion, as well as construction management and design-build services. Salter said his favorite part of the job is walking a client
through the entire process from the idea stage to completion.
“The company was built on a reputation for respect, teamwork and commitment,” he said. “We enjoy the relationship we have built with so many clients over the years.”
The construction industry has evolved with new technology, new tools and in- creased specialization among contractors, he said, and Salter Construction also has changed. In the late 1980s, it expanded into real estate development and management with the creation of Salter Properties.
“I think developing has given me an un- derstanding of the owner’s perspective, and we take an owner’s approach to every proj- ect that we build for our clients,” Salter said.
He added that he plans to continue ex- panding the business throughout Arkansas and beyond. The business recently began construction on an apartment complex in Rogers, which paved the way for other op- portunities in Northwest Arkansas, he said.
Salter credited the company’s growing staff, namely his son Nathan, who is now president, with helping ensure its success.
“It takes each and every one of them to be able to do what we do,” he said.
