After that, we’re trying to find a little depth in our pitching. We’re going to throw some guys out there early, and we may get our brains beat in, but we’re going to find out if they can pitch or not.”
Wicks is the most experienced pitcher, having been a starter since his freshman year, the coach said. Wicks started the 2015 state- championship game as a freshman. In 52.2 in- nings last year, he gave up 21 earned runs for a 2.79 ERA.
Tucker has also pitched varsity innings since he was a freshman. He had an ERA of 3.32 last year. CHS assistant coach Barry Lueders said Tucker had been a closer the last two seasons.
“I think Wicks and Tucker are two of the best around,” Lueders said. “You’ve got to have pitching to win.”
New pitchers this year are seniors Stillwell and Reck, juniors Hreha and Jackson Hull, and sophomores James Hicks and Baker Kendrick.
