HOME, LAWN & GARDEN • RIVER VALLEY & OZARK EDITION OF THE ARKANSAS DEMOCRATGAZETTE
When contemplating installing an inground pool, many issues must be considered, including cost, safety and location of the pool.
Now that the weather is warming up, many homeowners’ thoughts are drifting toward relaxing days
spent soaking up some sun by the pool. Ear- ly spring is a great time to install a pool so the family has a go-to hangout by the time summer arrives.
Installing a pool is a large financial in- vestment, and homeowners considering adding a pool should not take that deci- sion lightly.
When attempting to determine if a pool is for them, homeowners may want to ask themselves the following questions.
➤ Is my yard suitable for a pool?
Some yards may not be large enough for pools, while others may not meet the zoning requirements set forth by the town. Still other yards may have soil that’s not suitable for putting in an inground pool, or
may have a high water table that can delay construction.
“You want to make it where it’s conve- nient to the family,” said Libby Barnett, owner of Conway Gardens and Pools. “[En- sure] that drainage and runoff don’t impact the pool negatively.”
Jeremy Lawson, owner of Luxury Pools and Spa in Conway, said, “A lot of sites on bluffs have really good views, but they are tough to build swimming pools in because of rock, and we have to use different equip- ment to excavate that rock.”
Tree roots and branch overhang are also issues that Lawson said need to be addressed in the decision-making process to select a pool site.
