The College of Health Professions at the Uni- versity of Arkansas for Medical Sciences offers 16 programs, making it the most comprehensive allied health college in Arkansas. All programs offer degrees at the bachelor’s level or higher.
The allied health professions are a vital and rapidly growing part of America’s health care industry, and the College of Health Professions is committed to producing exemplary graduates who are prepared to take their place in labora- tories, clinics and hospitals.
PROGRAMS
The college offers such bachelor’s programs as cytotechnology, dental hygiene, diagnostic medical technology, medical laboratory scienc- es, nuclear medicine imaging sciences, oph- thalmic medical technology, radiologic imaging sciences and respiratory care. The college also offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in dietet- ics and nutrition in a program sponsored jointly by UAMS and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. For students seeking a master’s degree, the college offers programs in clinical nutrition, genetic counseling, physi- cian assistant and speech-language pathology. The college’s doctoral programs are audiology, occupational therapy and physical therapy.
UAMS is committed to making education accessible. Online degree-completion programs are available in radiologic-imaging sciences and medical-laboratory sciences. Several programs offer classes in both Little Rock and on the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus, with two programs — physical therapy and occupational therapy — taught exclusively in Fayetteville. The college also has more than 600 clinical-affiliation agree- ments around the state and the nation to allow students to gain clinical experience in real-life settings as part of the educational process.
The college is also committed to helping students meet their educational goals and offers dozens of scholarships. In 2019, scholarships totaling nearly $57,000 were awarded to 40 students.
• The College of Health Professions operates three education-based patient-care clinics that are open to the public: audiology, speech-language pathology and dental hygiene.
• The UAMS College of Health Professions offers degree programs that can’t be found elsewhere in Arkansas, including audiology, genetic counseling, cytotechnology and ophthalmic medical technology.
