P. 5

FROM THE GOVERNOR
State of Arkansas
Asa Hutchinson Governor
I have had the privilege of living most days of my life somewhere in Arkansas. I was born in Gravette. I attended high school in Springdale and law school in Fayetteville. I practiced law in Bentonville. For years, Susan, the children and I lived in Fort Smith; then we lived in Bella Vista. Now we have a home in Rogers. For the moment, of course, the rst lady and I live in central Arkansas — Little Rock, to be exact.
Each place is special to us for di erent reasons, but the one thing common to each place is the quality of the people. Whatever the crisis, Arkansans run to help their neighbors, and I have had plenty of opportunities to witness that. During my rst six years as governor, I have declared emergencies nearly 200 times. We have endured severe thunderstorms, local ooding, tornadoes, a historic ood and in 2020, of course, COVID-19.
During every one of these events, I heard reports and saw rsthand the courage and kindness of Arkansans who delivered meals, lled sandbags, plugged levees, cleared fallen limbs and other debris, donated blood, shared generators, donated money, and when all that work was done, asked, “What else can I do?”
When a CEO asks why a company should do business in Arkansas, or someone asks why I live here, I talk about our waterways, our bike trails, our entrepreneurial spirit, our infrastructure and the strength of our workforce at every level. But the most important thing to know about where we live is that you won’t nd better people than the people of Arkansas.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson
Sincerely,
Asa Hutchinson Governor
