with gift suggestions. While couples may feel
uncomfortable asking for gifts, registries are convenient for guests and bene t couples at all stages of life, said Morgan Thrash, director of the registry at Dillard’s. Here are some tips to help couples build their wedding registries.
• Register with more than one store. Couples usually register with three stores, offering various price points, Thrash said. Try to register with at least one national chain so guests who live in different regions can shop for gifts in person if they prefer.
• Make a large list. Some couples are hesitant to make large wedding registries, feeling that doing so gives the impression that they are asking for too much, but large registries give guests more options from which to choose. Thrash recommended including two items per guest.
• Take your lifestyle into account when registering. “If you love to entertain and see lots of dinner parties in your future, register for that great serveware or barware set that you’ve always wanted. If you love to travel, add luggage,” Thrash added. “Don’t forget the practical. This is a great time to replace towels and pillows.”
points allows your guests to buy something special they know you will love at a price that ts their budget,” Thrash said. “Couples often shy away from putting big-ticket items on their registries, but a big-ticket item such as a complete cookware set makes a great group gift.”
• Periodically update the registry. “As things are purchased from your registry, you may need to add additional items to give your guests options to shop from,” Thrash said. “Most stores allow you to manage your registry online so you can easily add and delete items as it gets closer to your wedding day.”
• Revisit the registry after the wedding. Many retailers discount registry items that were not purchased. “If there is an item you’d love to have but don’t think it’s something anyone would purchase for you, this discount is a great reason to add it to your registry,” Thrash said.
