THINGS TO DO
MammoVan is a mobile mammography unit that provides screenings
for those who qualify. The MammoVan is outfitted with the most advanced digital mammography equipment and is staffed by a certified mammography technologist and a technical assistant. Attendees of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 2018 Senior Expo will have a chance to check out the MammoVan.
UAMS will also offer “Ask a Pharmacist” sessions to provide attendees with answers to their medication questions. In addition, complimentary 15-minute sessions with UAMS doctors will be scheduled on-site from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. UAMS will also provide nutrition, vision and other information tailored to the needs of seniors.
Visitors to the event can explore UAMS’ giant inflatable Mega Brain, an oversized model that illustrates the brain’s structure and provides information about strokes and brain injuries and diseases.
Arkansas Travelers bingo
There will be two chances to play bingo at the 2018 Senior Expo, both hosted by the Arkansas Travelers. The team will be giving away Arkansas Travelers prizes all day. The first round will be at 10:30 a.m.; a second bingo event will start at noon and last until 1 p.m. The grand prize will be an Opening-Weekend Family Pack that includes the following:
• 4 reserved tickets to every game on Opening Day Weekend;
• 4 hot dogs, 4 soft drinks, 4 popcorns (for each opening-weekend game); • 4 Arkansas Travelers hats;
• 4 Arkansas Travelers replica jerseys;
• 4 baseballs; and
• 4 pennants.
Exhibit
Attendees can meet John Deering, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette editorial cartoonist, who will draw caricatures and sign copies of his book, The View from Here, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Author Janet Carson will sign copies of her books from 10 a.m. to noon.
There will also be a reading nook, where attendees may preview var- ious books available for purchase, including Arkansas Life magazine’s cookbook, The Modern Arkansas Table.
Politics
The panels at the Senior Expo will cover more than just health topics. One panel will have a strong focus on the role of seniors in the upcoming election and how it affects those 55 and older.
Former Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Deputy Editor Frank Fellone will host a political panel about the midterm election, with a panel that includes Arkansas Democrat-Gazette columnist John Brummett; Skip Rutherford, dean of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service; Sylvester Smith, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business/ Arkansas; and Bill Vickery, host of “The Sunday Buzz” on 103.7 The Buzz.
Grand-prize drawing
At 2 p.m., the Ultimate Giveaway grand-prize drawing for the 2018 Senior Expo will take place. Giveaways will take place throughout the event, including a grand prize of an ultimate giveaway featuring gifts from Cornerstone Pharmacy, Granite Transformations, Edward Jones financial advisor Brooks Browning, AAA, the Arkansas Repertory Theatre and CapTel Captioned Telephone Service.
