ARKADELPHIA BADGERS
The Arkadelphia Badgers’ Zion Hatley runs a play during preseason drills. The Badgers, who finished 14-1 a year ago, are the defending Class 4A state champions.

a safety. Rogers also returned a fumble for a touchdown and scooped up another, which set up a score. Classmate Jayson Campbell (6-2, 200) lines up at the other end spot and terrorizes opponents with 4.6 speed, Eldridge said. Campbell recovered 3 fumbles last year, including 1 that set up a touchdown against Bauxite.
Lawson accumulated 29 tackles and intercept- ed 1 pass and deflected 2 others and will see some work at defensive tackle, in addition to his new role on the offensive line, the coach said. Class- mate Terrel Sumler (5-9, 220) earned a tackle spot in the spring, and senior Keandre Dawson (6-0, 295) and sophomore Elijah Wheeler (5-10, 195) will rotate inside, Eldridge said.
All-conference senior Josh Wallace (5-10, 205) racked up 90 tackles from his middle-linebacker spot last season. Wallace (4.6 GPA) totaled 13 tackles in the state-title game and returned a fumble for a touchdown against Hot Springs.
Eldridge called Harrison “a turnover- making machine.” He’ll see time at running back, but his focus will be trying to duplicate a 2017 defensive performance that earned him all-state honors with 83 tackles. Harrison forced 3 fumbles against Joe T. Robinson and racked up 10 tackles in the title game.
Eldridge wasn’t sure if Tademy would return after totaling 44 tackles and 6 inter- ceptions in 2017. Tademy’s father, Tony, left his job as Henderson State University associ- ate head coach in Arkadelphia for the head
coaching job at Grand Prairie High School in Texas. The younger Tademy (29 ACT) decided to stay in Arkadelphia for his senior season.
“He is one of the best in the state, and he is a great kick and punt returner with top-end speed,” Eldridge said.
Junior Patrick Mclane (5-10, 160) and sopho- more Kelin Nelson (6-0, 160) are locked in a bat- tle for the other cornerback spot, the coach said.
Senior free safety Carlos Haynie (6-0, 180) totaled 41 tackles last season and returned an interception for a touchdown against Ashdown.
Senior K.J. Terry (5-10, 170) left for Bryant after an impressive seventh-grade football sea- son in Arkadelphia. After moving back to Ark- adelphia, he earned the other safety spot with 4.6 speed and his tackling ability, which will also help on special teams, Eldridge said.
