MEET
YOUR NEIGHBOR
Gail Tucker
MANAGER, BRADFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY
HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED AT THE LIBRARY?
I came here five years ago last June after retiring from several years in public education.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS FIELD?
As a reading specialist, I constantly searched for books and stories to get students “hooked” on reading. That led to obtaining a master’s degree in library media and working within the educational system.
WHY IS THE BRADFORD LIBRARY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY?
We provide free Wi-Fi to our patrons, as well as computer use and computer assistance. We offer free after-school programs for kids and teens, as well as adult reading groups and art/craft classes.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?
We have such a wonderful group of patrons here in Bradford. Interacting with them, many of whom have become close friends, is truly a joy. I have the pleasure of planning and participating in adult and teen programs regularly and occa- sionally conducting children’s programs. Also, I have the privilege of presenting to residents in Oakdale Nursing Home each week.
WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT THE WHITE COUNTY REGIONAL LIBRARY SYSTEM?
There are eight libraries in White County. We have a transit system for deliveries three times each week, meaning that a patron in Bradford can order an item from any of the other libraries and receive the item shortly at no cost. Also, we publish monthly calendars that are posted in City Hall and local businesses and can be picked up from the library. We participate in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Tackle Loan Program, whereby rod and reels can be checked out from the library like books.
