Q. What are some of your nicknames?
A. I’ve always been called by my last name or some form thereof — Rook, Rookie or Rookster.
Q. How do you start your day? A. Coffee and the Arkansas
Democrat-Gazette
Q. Why do you love working for the college?
A. I love what I do. Our faculty and staff have their hearts and minds in the right place. They all strive for our students’ success. Our students are a diverse group who work hard to change their
lives for the better. I believe we make a difference in our community.
Q. What is your best workday? A. One of our graduation days
Q. What is your worst workday? A. When there’s a tragedy within
the COTO family, but the great thing is that our folks rally around each other.
Q. What are your company’s best attributes?
A. The hardworking and caring faculty and staff
Q. What is one thing people don’t know about the company you work for:
A. More people need to know
more about College of the Ouachitas. Our students who graduate with a two-year degree have a higher starting salary than graduates of 20
of the 22 two-year colleges in Arkansas and all of the four-year universities. Our students and their families receive a great return on their investment.
Q. What is your typical workday in a nutshell?
A. In higher education, there is no typical workday.
Q. “If i weren’t in this business, I would”:
A. Be a lawyer or on the radio
Q. Where would people find you on your days off, and what would you be doing?
A. I would be at a movie theater or a concert, or traveling with my wife.
Q. What is the best business advice you have ever received and from whom:
A. Dr. Robin Myers, the chancellor of Arkansas State University- Mountain Home, when he congratulated me on my new position at COTO, gave me this advice: “Let your people know you love them and support them, and things will take care of themselves.”
