COUNTY COORDINATOR INFORMATION The 2010 Arkansas State Spelling Bee is scheduled for March 6, 2010. The bee will again be held at the University Theater on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus. A schedule of events and directions to the campus will be sent to you closer to the date of the event. Enrollment Fee: Scripps will again charge the $99 enrollment fee. Once enrolled, schools will receive exclusive online access to the 2010 Classroom Pronouncer Guide, the 2010 School Pronouncer Guide, study materials, Great American SpellCheck materials, award certificates, a bonus from Encyclopaedia Britannica, and local spelling bee program information. Important Dates: •Scripps has set the deadline for paying the $99 participation fee as October 16. A late registration period may be set, but fees may apply. •The deadline to host a local bee is January 9. •The deadline to host a county bee is February 6. Important Information: •Contact all of the schools in your county to inform them that you are the county coordinator. •Please decide specifics of your county bee by January 1 and secure the pronouncer and judges, preferably from outside your school. •The last day for schools to host a bee is January 9. Please arrange with your schools’ contacts how they will forward their winners’ information to you. •Your county bee needs to be held on or by February 6. You will receive a county winner form and a 2010 county coordinator from by mail in December. Please return these to me by February 12. •Each school may host its local bee in any way they see fit. However, it is suggested that they follow the national rules included in their initial packet. Additionally, you may hold your county be in the way that best suits your county. The only firm rule is that you may only enter one winner per county in the state bee. •Each county winner will receive an award and certificate at the Arkansas State Spelling Bee on March 6. You may want to contact local businesses or organizations to provide prizes for your county bee. •Contact your local newspaper or radio station about coverage of your county spelling bee. •If you winner’s family requires financial assistance to attend the Arkansas State Spelling Bee, you may want to consider contacting your local PTA for help. We thank you for giving your valuable time to this program. Without volunteers like you, this program would not be possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me any time. |
