Versatile plaid can be charming and traditional on royals, cowboys and golfers, but it is also an edgy hallmark of London street punks and a preppy pattern beloved by the gals from Clueless.
skin treatment}
One benefit of getting facials includes the reduction in shaving irritation, which is an important bonus for most men for revitalizing their skin after using razors.
FACE facts reasons facials can be
beneficial for men, too
Although facials are a luxury usually associated with women, good skin is not exclusive to the fairer sex. Men’s reasons for getting a facial often differ from women’s, but men can benefit from facials just as much as their female counterparts.
This year’s trend leans toward neutrals, but a few pieces with a jewel-toned statement color are popping up. Toned-down hues leave plenty of room for big, bold patterns.
Styles gravitate toward chunky, structured trousers, coats and shoes, but some delicate options — like patterned, pointed pumps or handkerchief skirts with a plaid panel — are available.
Both men and women can rock the trend with a full plaid outfit like Glen plaid suits, tartan dresses or a checked skirt-and-blazer combo. These bold outfits pair nicely with sol- id accessories. Conversely, outfits can incor- porate subtle plaid in small doses with scarfs, handbags or heels.
Many plaids have cropped up over time. What follows is a rundown on some of the more popular varieties.
Tartan
Most Americans think of tartan when they think of plaid. This design consists of multiple colors of thread that intersect at right angles to create different sizes of checks.
Buffalo Plaid
Buffalo plaid is the large plain plaid associ- ated with lumberjacks and cowpokes. Its thick bands of two colors, often red and black, inter- sect to form big blocks.
Madras
Originating in India, Madras plaid features bright hues of stripes that create uneven checks. Although it is more popular for sum- mer, subdued Madras in grays and reds can work for fall.
Windowpane Check
Windowpane check features large open squares that look like panes of a window. Thin lines of a single color crisscross over a base color. When the design is smaller, it is known as graph check. Add an additional color to the grid, and it creates tattersall.
Glen Plaid
Glen plaid features a twill design that cre- ates alternating blocks of small and large checks. This smart mix of textures is typical- ly black or gray and white, but it can include an accent color in a windowpane pattern.
Gingham
Gingham connects vertical and horizon- tal stripes over a base color to create even squares. The stripes are normally the same color but appear to create a darker tone when they meet.
Mini, Pin and Shepherd’s Check
Minicheck is a smaller version of gingham, and pin check is a much smaller version that looks like a textured solid from a distance. Shepherd’s check is much like gingham, but it is distinguished by its visible twill weave that adds a diagonal dimension to the de- sign.
Houndstooth
Houndstooth is a bold pattern of jagged checks that resemble dogs’ teeth. Although it is usually black and white, it can be found in earth tones and can incorporate a bold color for an edgy look.
Many women see the time they take getting a facial as “me” time, meaning a time when they can relax and do what they want, giving them an emotional benefit. Another benefit women might see is that facials give their skin more of a glow.
The following are just a handful of the benefits a man can expect after receiving a facial.
Reduce shaving irritation
Perhaps the greatest reason for a man to get a facial is to relieve the irritation shaving causes. Even the most techno- logically advanced razors cause some ir- ritation, and that irritation can be mild, painful or anywhere in between. Rath- er than growing a beard to avoid the painful side effects of shaving, men can treat their skin to a facial to revitalize their skin and help offset some of the results of using razors.
Improve appearance
One of the bigger benefits of receiving a
facial is the procedure’s effect on an in- dividual’s appearance. Men are more prone to clogged pores than women, but facials clean pores more deeply than store-bought scrubs and cleansers, help- ing skin appear more vibrant and healthy. An improved appearance can impact a man’s self-esteem, which can benefit a man in both his personal and profession- al life.
Combat aging
Wrinkles are a natural side effect of ag- ing, but some men find this part of the aging process troublesome. Men whose wrinkles doubled seemingly overnight may be able to slow the wrinkling pro- cess by receiving a facial, which can help improve the elasticity of the skin and con- tribute to cellular regeneration that helps men avoid looking older than they are.
