With chilly days ahead, many women will turn to the season’s must-have accessory — the blanket scarf. This ample cloth, which is the size of a throw one might cuddle up with on the couch, can be worn in a seemingly endless number of ways, from simply draped around the shoulders to tied, pinned or belted. Here are 12 ways to wear a blanket scarf:
BELTED PONCHO
1 Fold the scarf in half horizontally. Drape over the
shoulders. Belt the scarf at the waist. Try folding the scarf in half like a triangle for a slightly different variation of this look.
4 NEAT NECKERCHIEF Scrunch the scarf together
diagonally. Hold one end of the scarf at the navel, and wrap the other end around the neck twice from the left. Pull the loose end in through the loops around the neck at the front.
WARM WRAPPING
7 Fold the scarf in half like a triangle. From the front, drape the scarf around the shoulders
with the two ends crossing at the nape of the neck. Return the ends to the front, leaving the left end loose. Gather material at the chest, and bring the right end of the scarf up, tucking it in at the throat.
BRAIDED ASCOT
10 Scrunch the scarf together diagonally. Wrap it around the
neck from the front, crossing ends at the nape of the neck. Bring the ends to the front. Make a loop with the main drape of the scarf; pull one end into the loop from the top, and pull the remaining end through the loop.
BELTED DRAPE
2 Fold the scarf in half like a triangle. Lay the scarf around
the neck with one end slightly longer. Wrap a belt around the scarf at the chest as many times as needed to secure the scarf.
5 LEAVING LOOSE ENDS Fold the scarf in half like a
triangle. Drape the scarf from the front with the two ends crossing at the nape of the neck. Return the ends to the front, and let them lie just under the sides of the main drape of the scarf.
SIMPLE STOLE
8 Scrunch the scarf together 9 diagonally. Wrap it around the
neck from the back, and draw the right end over the left shoulder to hang to the back.
ASYMMETRICAL TIE
3 Fold the scarf in half like a triangle. Wrap the scarf around
the neck twice from the front, with the first layer longer than the second. Tie the scarf at the nape of the neck, and tuck in the ends.
6 CROSSBODY CAPE Drape the scarf around the
shoulders vertically from the back. Bring the left end of the scarf over the right shoulder. Use a pin or broach to secure the scarf, if desired.
OFFTHESHOULDER SHORT SHAWL
Fold the scarf in thirds horizontally. Drape it
around the body just off the shoulders. Fold the right end upward, and tuck it into the top front. Pin the scarf to secure it.
SIMPLE SHAWL
11 Fold the scarf in half horizontally. Drape it around
the shoulders, allowing the ends to meet at the rear of the left shoulder. Tie or pin the scarf to secure it.
PREPPY SWEATER TIE
12 Fold the scarf in fourths horizontally. Drape it around
the shoulders, and knot the scarf at the front.
