SOWELL’S FURNITURE
Searcy shop provides personalized designs
With more than 70 years of provid- ing high-quality furniture at the same location, Sowell’s Furniture in Searcy has expanded its showroom, invento- ry and services to make the business a one-stop shop for those wanting to create a beautiful look in their home.
“I want their home to look like they want it to look,” said Nancy Hatfield, who co-owns Sowell’s with her sister, Betty Mote. “I’m going to help them make good choices. A lot of people don’t know how to get to a finished product, and we just help them get there.”
The company opened in 1945 when John and Lora Sowell, Nancy and Bet- ty’s parents, started a business selling used wooden ice boxes. After the war, finding new merchandise was next to impossible, but eventually, John found a market in Chicago that sold new items. What started as a 3,000-square- foot building has expanded to an area
of 38,000 square feet and two ware- houses in downtown Searcy. Sowell’s Furniture has remained a family-op- erated business that takes pride in of- fering the latest styles in furnishings.
“We’re serving generations of fami- lies, and we’ve made many friends, and they’re very loyal,” Hatfield said. “We want our customers to feel welcome and at home.”
Sowell’s Furniture offers home fur- nishings by popular brands such as La-Z-Boy, King Hickory, Craftmaster, Hooker Furniture and Uttermost. To complete the look, the company also offers a wide selection of accessories.
In addition to furniture, Sowell’s offers interior-design services from its design and sales staff, working with customers to create the home of their dreams.
