MINUTE WITH A MANAGER
City Motors Pre-owned
how their weekend or day went. I also want to see if there is anything I can do to help make their workday easier.
Q. What is your best workday? A. Friday! The day before the
weekend.
Q. What is your worst workday? A. Monday. The beginning of the
workweek.
Q. What are your company’s best attributes?
A. Customer service
Q. What is one thing people
don’t know about the company you work for?
A. We’re locally and family- owned. We’ve been in business for more than 64 years, and our founder’s wife, Miriam Davis, is 102 years old. Many people do not realize we have four locations, nor do they realize just how many products we actually carry
or that we have the ability to order even more. Customers also don’t seem to be aware that our installed sales encompasses so many things
like insulation, gutters and garage doors.
Q. What is your typical workday, in a nutshell?
A. Going through paperwork and making sure we’re providing exceptional customer service
Q. If you weren’t in this business, you would be:
A. If I weren’t in the lumber business, I would still be in the retail business. Maybe in the grocery business, where I started years ago.
Q. Where would people find you on your days off and what would you be doing?
A. Spending time with my family and mowing my lawn with my son
Q. What is the best business advice you have ever received, and from whom?
A. John Davis, a retired former owner, taught me the detail of retail. That just means that if you pay attention to the smallest details and take care of them, the retail portion of the job will work itself out.
