While folk tunes drive many to Mountain View, the soothing sound of Sylamore Creek as it gently flows into the White River offers a different sort of relaxing retreat.
Chris McCollum, the owner of Anglers White River Resort, said his scenic slice of paradise in the Ozarks has come a long way since he drove right on past the resort on Arkansas 5 without noticing it before he purchased the place in 2007. Now, welcoming signs and new cabins with river views make it hard to miss.
Fishing
It’s called Anglers for a reason. The White River is a world-class trout-fishing destination, McCollum said. Throw a line in on a guided fishing trip, and you’re hooked. If you’ve got a favorite pole, by all means, bring it. But there’s no need to pack all that tackle.Anglers’ expert guides have everything you need and will even bait your hook. What’s the fun in that, though?
“Watching someone catch their first fish and create experiences and memories that last a lifetime,” McCollum said, are the highlights for him and his family members who also work in the business.
For something extra special,Anglers offers a deluxe shore lunch with your catch fried up fresh in a secret batter while you take it easy on the riverside lawn.
Rentals and float trips
For those who would rather take to the water on their own, Anglers rents 16- and 20-foot boats with motors for a full day or just a half day. The resort can also outfit adventurers with everything needed to make memories on a float trip, including canoes, kayaks and inflatable rafts for the whole family. Anglers’ shuttle will transport
your crew upriver for a gentle 8- or 17-mile float with the trip landing you back along the grassy bank at the resort.
Lodging
Anglers offers a variety of accommodations, from economical motel rooms to new two- and three-bedroom cabins with full kitchens and decks with views of the beautiful White River. Tucked away across the road, the resort also has log-sided cabins and a lodge on Sylamore Creek, where there’s even more to explore.
RV and tent camping
More than 100 RV campsites with full hookups dot the campground along the creek. In Anglers’ full-service fashion, you can even rent an RV on-site for a fun time with your family. The campground also offers a pool and clubhouse where Anglers’ guests can cool down.
Restaurant
The only private club selling alcohol in Stone County, the dining room and patio overlooking the river at Anglers’ restaurant bring in local regulars and vacationers alike with the establishment’s culinary offerings.
“We’re carving a little niche out with quality food and seafood specials on Saturdays,” McCollum said.
Kids enjoy making trips to the salad-bar boat, and the lure of the 3-pound burger challenge with a pound of cheese fries on the side entices diners of all ages.
