Business offers fun, games and live music
Located in Hot Springs National Park, Oaklawn has been one of the premiere thoroughbred racetracks in the country since 1904 and is best known as home of the $1 million Arkansas Derby. Today, Oaklawn also offers a full house of fun and excitement day and night, all year long. The gaming facility, which expanded in 2015, features blackjack with real cards, poker, the most popular gaming terminals and the award-winning Silks Bar & Grill.
GOOD TO KNOW: In addition to operating the year-round gaming facility, Oaklawn will play host to some of the big- gest names in the music business during its Finish Line Theater Concert Series, which runs May through October. Acts in- clude The Monkees on July 22, Vince Gill on Aug. 18 and Bob Newhart on Oct. 14. For family-friendly entertainment, there is the 25th annual Spa Blast Friday on July 1 in Oaklawn’s Infield. This free event fea- tures live music by Joe Diffie, a Kids Zone and the region’s biggest fireworks display.
Oaklawn opens at 10 a.m. daily for gam- ing and at 11 a.m. for simulcast racing. Live racing will return Jan. 13, 2017.
