CONWAY ST. JOSEPH BULLDOGS
Bulldogs hope for comeback after rough 2016 season
BY DONNA LAMPKIN STEPHENS

Conway St. Joseph finished 7-8 last year, the first losing season coach Luke Davis had ever experienced in any- thing — and he didn’t like it.
“I still do not like it,” said Davis, the 10th- year Bulldog coach. “I hope the boys remem- ber and use it as motivation.”
Davis led the Bulldogs to the 2013 Class 2A State Championship — the only base- ball title in school history — and that’s what he and assistant coach Brent Bruich are a spiring to.
Starting now.
“I am hoping we can exceed our success from last year,” Davis said. “We have four senior starters returning and one sophomore. I am hoping these guys will lead us in the right direction.”
Back are senior starters David Beck (pitcher/first base), who has committed to play next year for College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri; Brad Vandivere
Conference: 2A-4 East Coach: Luke Davis
Assistant coach: Brent Bruich 2016 record: 7-8
Mascot: Bulldogs
Returning starters: David Beck, Brad
Vandivere, Daniel Lee Kordsmeier, Dawson Schrekenhofer and Jack Briggler
(pitcher/center fielder), Daniel Lee Kordsmeier (pitcher/first baseman/left fielder) and Daw- son Schrekenhofer (right fielder); and soph- omore utility player Jack Briggler.
Beck and Briggler led the Bulldogs’ bat- ting charts last season. Beck was the ace of the pitching staff with a 2.8 ERA and a 4-4 record.
“If it’s a big game, he’s on the mound,” Davis said.
While those returners are the Bulldogs’ strength, Davis said a possible weakness is four freshmen starting at the same time.
