Q. How does massage therapy promote good health for my total body?
A. Massage stimulates and tones the muscles and can help relieve soreness and stiffness in muscles and joints, which can strengthen connective tissue. This aids in relaxation, relieves fatigue and provides relief of muscle spasms. Thai massage combines stretching for flexibility with acupressure, myofascial release and gentle rocking. These techniques can help relieve pain, recover vitality and create a lasting feeling of well being.

Q. What causes my heart to flutter or pound harder than usual? Is it something serious, a sign of getting older or just stress? What evaluations can determine what is going on?
A. Heart palpitations are the feeling of having a rapid, fluttering or pounding heart. Heart pal- pitations can be triggered by stress, exercise, medication or, occasionally, a medical condition. Symptoms of heart palpitations can include feeling like your heart is skipping beats, fluttering, beating too fast or pumping harder than usual. If you have a history of heart disease and palpita- tions happen frequently or worsen, a heart-monitoring test can reveal if the symptoms are caused by more serious heart problems. If palpitations are coupled with any kind of chest discomfort or pain, fainting, dizziness or shortness of breath, we recommend you see a cardiologist as soon as possible. There are many common causes of heart palpitations, such as caffeine, nicotine, fever and anxiety. Women may experience heart palpitations more often than men. That is why it is always a good idea to see a cardiologist at the onset of these symptoms to rule out a more serious medical condition.

Q. What is something you wish everyone knew about the University of Central Arkansas’ Conference Services?
A. At UCA, we have so many great spaces on campus, including the new UCA Downtown, and all of them can be rented to the public. Here is the thing we want to convey most to people: You don’t have to be a UCA student, alumni, or faculty or staff member to utilize the university’s beautiful venues. Everyone in the community is invited to rent our spaces.
