Miss Selma’s School believes every child can succeed
After 59 years of excellence, Miss Sel- ma’s School continues to provide quality education and seeks to develop the total child. Members of the faculty and staff ap- preciate childhood as a unique and valuable stage of human development. The school supports the bond between the child, the teacher and the family, and respects the worth and uniqueness of each child and the diversity in children and their families.
Miss Selma’s School, one of the first private schools in Little Rock, was found- ed in 1956 as a co-educational school for children ages 2 through the sixth grade. The school is at 7814 T St.
It is the goal of the school to provide each child with a superior record of ac- ademic achievement with a strong foun- dation in reading, phonics, language arts, math, history and science. The science program offers a hands-on science lab for kindergarten through the sixth grade.
Educational development begins in the 2-year-old class, with academic growth emphasized through the sixth grade.
An outstanding fine-arts program be- gins in preschool and continues through the sixth grade. Extracurricular classes include Spanish and music, which are taught daily to children ages 2, 2 1/2, 3 and 3 1/2. Computer instruction begins at age 3 1/2; at age 4, a second class of computer is added that emphasizes key- boarding. In kindergarten and continuing through the sixth grade, the extracurric- ular classes consist of Spanish, music, art, physical education and technology on a weekly basis. Other advantages offered at Miss Selma’s include the Accelerated Reader Program, basketball, cheerlead- ing, piano, violin, Scouts and extended care before and after school.
For children ages 2 through the first grade, summer play school is available,
offering physical education, Spanish and computer skills from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. In the upper-el- ementary levels, summer educational workshops are offered.
Classes are limited in size, with an emphasis on individualized instruction. Experienced teachers offer a safe, loving environment with the philosophy that ev- ery child can succeed. Miss Selma’s staff believes that high-quality early educa- tion, fostered by loving, enthusiastic at- titudes, will promote physical, social and educational excellence.
Miss Selma’s, with a current enroll- ment of more than 350, has been an ac- tive part of the Little Rock educational community for more than 59 years. Lim- ited openings are available for the 2015- 2016 school term.
