From nurses to administrators and first responders to physicians, there are many people involved in health care. Bringing to- gether a wide variety of health care stakeholders is one of the keys to improving community health.
In order to recognize an individual whos pro- fessional work has made a positive impact on the overall quality of care in the North Metro area, an expert panel selects a Health Care Professional of the Year to honor as part of the North Metro Healthcare Awards, presented by the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce.
This year’s honoree is Michael Murry, lead clinical case coordinator for Baptist Health Med- ical Center-Conway.
“Patient care is a priority to me and my team,” he said. “We strive to develop custom- er relationships, acquire new skills, improve our existing abilities and become familiar with rele- vant pharmaceuticals. Having the ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, dietitians, pur- chasing agents, clinicians and even families has definitely worked in my favor.”
Murry was born and raised in Augusta, where he graduated from Augusta High School as valedictorian of the class of 1993. He is the son of Larry Murry and Carrie Taylor. In 1999, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nurs- ing from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, where he was a four-year starter on the Bears football team.
Now he lends his skills to a different team at Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway, where he not only facilitates patient care, but also plans, coordinates and monitors care, together with physicians, nurses and other staff members.
Murry began his health care career at Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, where he

worked as a staff nurse, charge nurse and unit supervisor of the cardiovascular intensive-care unit for 14 years. In 2008, he received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, which is given by the DAISY Foundation to honor and thank outstanding nurses.

Just as doctors and nurses work to keep their patients healthy, so do health care ad- ministrators work to keep their staffs and
companies healthy. During the North Metro Healthcare Awards luncheon, a member of a health care organization’s leadership team is honored as Administrator of the Year for his or her dedication to organization, team empower- ment and community advancement.
This year’s recipient is Matt Troup, president and CEO of Conway Regional Health System.
“The role of any administrator in health care is a facilitator,” he said. “I don’t give treatments, medicines or perform procedures. ... I do serve the hundreds of individuals who do, however. I think of them frequently and often.”
Troup assumed his current role in 2015 as part of a five-year management agreement be- tween Conway Regional and CHI St. Vincent in Little Rock, where he had been serving as vice president of ancillary services.
Lori Ross at Conway Regional, who nominat- ed Troup for the award, noted that the agree- ment addresses challenges faced by the hospital for the past 10 years, including the threat of the first competing acute-care hospital in the community. Troup’s arrival was a boon for the hospital, she said.
“Employee-engagement scores have increased substantially since Matt Troup’s arrival,” she said, noting that one reason for that increase is Troup’s unique approach to quarterly employee town-hall meetings, which have improved transparency and communication, leading to a reduction in employee turnover.
In addition, Troup spearheaded the hospital’s Accountable Clinical Management, which en- sures a competitive business model by bringing

together physicians and administrators to im prove the quality, cost and efficiency of service “In addition to his professional contributions Mr. Troup has a servant’s heart and leads by ex
ample,” she said. “After a recent snowstorm, he arrived at the medical center early to scrape the snow and ice off of the night-shift employees vehicles. He did this on his own — there wa no organized leadership effort to carry out thi good deed.”
