Each year, National Nurses Week takes place starting May 6 and ending on May 12. The week celebrates the roles nurses play in delivering care to their patients.

Yearly event celebrates nurses’ vital role in health care
National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. During National Nurses Week and throughout the year, the American Nurses Association celebrates the role nurses play in delivering the highest level of
care to their patients. The nursing profession has been supported and pro- moted by the association since 1896. The ANA supports and encourages National Nurses Week recognition programs through state and district nurses associations, other specialty nursing organizations, educational facilities and independent health care companies and institutions.
National Nurses Week encourages nurses around the country to adopt a culture of safety. To promote the culture of safety, the organization is holding it’s “Safe Nurses Rock” social-media contest. By using the #SafeNursesRock social media tag on their photos and videos, nurses can enter the contest. At the end of National Nurses Week, 10 randomly selected winners will be chosen.
