Inspired by the lush flavor and hue of Italy’s famous fortified wine, the experts at the Pantone Color Institute have cho-
sen Marsala as the 2015 color of the year — and the intoxicating shade is popping up everywhere, from fashion runways to cosmetics and even interior design.
Marsala’s earthy blend of brown and wine red provides a unifying element for home decor, whether used as an accent color or as a focal hue. According to the color experts at Pantone, the shade’s plush characteristics are enhanced when the col- or is applied to textured surfaces, such as rugs or upholstery. Marsala is ideal for the kitchen and dining room, as well as other areas of the home, such as the family room, bedrooms and bathrooms.
“Marsala is a very warm color, with several hues from midrange to dark,” said Mary Beth Crafton, co-owner of Crafton’s furniture in Jacksonville and Searcy. “It can be paired with the vibrant colors of yellow, turquoise, green and teal — or, if you want
to go more subtle, you could use neutrals, such as taupe or gray.”
Consider painting the dining room a de- licious shade of Marsala, or tossing a Mar- sala-hued rug over a hardwood floor in the family room for added warmth. Even a hint of this rich, reddish-brown hue — perhaps in a painting or in patterned textiles — creates a tasteful effect for any room.
