My story: I began my weight-loss journey after watching a video of a man who was handicapped and overweight. He changed his life by losing weight, which enabled him to walk on his own again. Seeing that video motivated me because if he couldn’t walk but was able to change his life, I knew I could do the same thing. I was 21 when I started my journey, knowing it would be best to change my habits at a young age. I changed what I was eating and became more active, and now I feel better, I look better, and I’m so much healthier. Before my weight loss, I had prehypertension, but now my blood pressure is normal. My lowest weight was 175 pounds, but I wasn’t toned. Now that I’m exercising and toning, I’ve gained 20 pounds, but most of it is muscle. I’m working on continuing to tone my body and lose 10
additional pounds to get to my ideal size.
My eating plan: I have added veggies, fruits and lean meat to my diet. I cut out red meat, and only eat chicken and turkey. I completely quit eating fast food and fried foods, and I only drink water. There are months when I chal- lenge myself by incorporating different diet plans. Some months I go without any meat at
all. Other months I cut out bread.
My exercise plan: When I first started my journey in 2013, I was working out in the gym five times a week. I was doing 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of lifting. Some days I run 1 to 3 miles outside. I like being outdoors, so in addition to running, I started doing activities such as climbing mountains and swimming. I lost over 150 pounds by just being more ac- tive and not being a couch potato. My advice for someone looking to lose weight is to simply change your diet and become more active. I did
it all by myself without a trainer or anything.
