ALLEN FURNITURE
101 W. Main St., Heber Springs 501-362-2698
Allen Furniture in Heber Springs has been in business for more than 54 years and is widely believed to be the oldest retail store in town. Greg and Candyce Allen are continuing the practice of selling quality furniture and delivering personal customer service — a business philosophy that was handed down from Greg’s father, Max, who owned the store for 27 years. Allen Furniture carries the more-popular name brands in furniture, including La- Z-Boy, Ashley and Sleeptronic. The store strives to maintain the family-business model. Greg has been around the furniture business since he was 5. The Allens now have 7-year- old twins, Kenneth and Chloe, and want to continue the family tradition. “It’s the perfect atmosphere for a family,” Candyce said. “We have the kids there, and my husband and I work together. There’s not a day that you walk in and you don’t see our kids playing house, playing soccer. Our kids are just a regular fixture in the store.”

One Greers Ferry destination has reached quite a milestone this year. Sugar Maple Inn is celebrating its 10-year anniversary, and owners Dana and Teresa Dupuy couldn’t be more excited. “We have made lots of friends and expanded a lot during that time but managed to maintain our friendly, family-oriented destination,” Teresa said. “The most frequent comment from our guests is, ‘It feels like home.’” That feeling of being at home is what the staff at Sugar Maple Inn strives to achieve. Rooms are comfortable and clean and appointed much like a house would be. Greenspace outside allows guests to spend time mingling, grilling and having space for children to play. Teresa said she enjoys getting to not only meet her guests, but to get to know them as well. “It is so interesting to meet and visit with people,” she said. “We have returning regular guests who have become not just familiar faces, but friends with children and grandchildren who we love.”
