University of Arkansas at Monticello offers educational opportunities in the liberal arts, basic and applied sciences, selected professions, and vocational and technical preparation.
OVERVIEW
As one of the few remaining open- admissions universities in the region, the University of Arkansas at Monticello is proud of its heritage of offering educational opportunities to the people of Arkansas. Founded in 1909 as the Fourth District Agricultural School, UAM is committed to meeting the challenges of higher education in the state and region.
ACADEMICS
Small classes and personal attention from a highly trained faculty separate UAM from larger institutions. The univer- sity offers the Bachelor of Science degree in 12 fields, the Bachelor of Arts degree in 10 major areas, the Bachelor of Ap- plied Science, the Bachelor of Business Administration, the Bachelor of General Studies, the Bachelor of Music Education, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Social Work, as well as several master’s-degree programs. UAM is home to the School of Forestry and Natural Re- sources, Arkansas’ only school of forestry. The university’s science and mathematics graduates have one of the state’s highest acceptance rates to medical and pharmacy schools, the nursing graduates are in high demand, and the jazz band has received
national and international recognition. UAM’s Colleges of Technology in Cros- sett and McGehee offer a variety of two- year programs and technical certificates for students who do not wish to pursue a
four-year degree.
CAMPUS LIFE
UAM has more than 80 campus orga- nizations that cover a variety of interests. The university also competes in the Great American Conference in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, golf and women’s cross coun- try. The Boll Weevils and Cotton Blossoms have a rich tradition and history in intercol- legiate athletics in Arkansas and the region.
