Founded in 1890, Henderson State University has a strong liberal-arts heritage with more than 80 majors and programs. Its 15:1 student-faculty ratio ensures that students receive the personal attention they deserve.
The university encourages scholarly and creative activities in a caring, person- al atmosphere that reflects the university’s motto for more than a century: “The School With a Heart.”
UNDERGRADUATE LEARNING
Henderson State’s three colleges help undergraduates prepare for success in their careers and communities.
The Matt Locke Ellis College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at Hender- son — uniting fine arts, humanities and social sciences, and mathematics, science and nursing.
The School of Business at Henderson offers Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-accredited degree programs in business and accounting.
The Teachers College regularly re- ceives national recognition for the quality
of the college’s mentor-teacher program for new teachers.
Other undergraduate programs include dietetics, recreation, fashion merchandis- ing, sports management, and family and consumer sciences.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Henderson State offers a wide variety of scholarships for incoming and transfer students. The application for undergrad- uate admission serves as the scholarship application.

COMMUNITY FEEL
Chancellor Peggy Doss has emphasized the community feel of UAM since she became chancellor in January 2020, and as a graduate herself, she knows the benefit of a tight-knit university. Each of the three UAM campuses — Monticello, Crossett and McGehee — are tied in closely with southeast Arkansas. The entire corner of the state is a largely rural, friendly and safe community of UAM students, alumni, fans and friends. Parents love that the student-to-faculty ratio is a competitive 15:1, with no graduate-assistant instructors. The close attention and numerous student resources ensure that UAM students never feel like a number.
OFFERINGS
UAM offers an array of higher education opportunities — from certificates of profi- ciency and technical certificates to associ- ate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees — on three campuses. The main campus in Monticello features a traditional residential college experience, but programs at each location have been recognized for quality and affordability. With more than 70 distinct programs of study, including the state’s only
The Centennial Clock Tower quad at the University of Arkansas at Monticello features a new Student Success Center that houses all essential resources under one roof.
College of Forestry, UAM offers something for students of virtually every interest.
EXPERIENCE
On-campus students can choose one of five residence halls where they can grow in their connection to the university community. With student programs held at least weekly,
more than 70 student organizations, and 10 NCAA Division II teams to cheer on, UAM stu- dents are never short of options for on-campus recreation. The region is also home to some of the nation’s best outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, camping and water sports.
