Guests at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette 2016 Senior Expo will have the chance to learn valuable information, meet
interesting people, talk with the event vendors and win amazing prizes.
The emcee will be emmy-award winning meteorologist Pat Walker, co-host of FOX 16’s Good Day morning show and also seen on KARK on Arkansas Today at noon. Walker is a Ward native who studied meteorology at Mississippi State University.
“From financial security to politics to furniture, the Senior Expo ensures folks can visit with a great variety of local businesses that can help them make healthy lifestyle decisions,” said Amanda Copley, marketing and events director for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
“Our vendors are ready to answer their questions and offer services specifically designed for Arkansas’ seniors.”
Health
During the 2016 Senior Expo, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will have an inflatable walk- through brain on display. This feature gives valuable information on the different parts of the brain, along with facts about a variety of features inside and outside the brain and information about strokes, Alzheimer’s disease, headaches, brain tumors, brain trauma and more.
Bingo
There are two chances to play bingo at the 2016 Senior Expo, both hosted by the Arkansas Travelers with Lance Restum, the team’s marketing director. Restum will be giving away Arkansas Travelers prizes all day. The first round is at 10:30 a.m.; a second bingo event will start at noon and last until 1 p.m. The bingo grand prize will be a four-day Southern Christmas Illuminations and Plantations trip for two, valued at $1,000, from Little Rock Tours and Travel. the South. From deep-rooted traditions, sparkling lights and bustling downtowns, this trip offers a chance to explore the historic Southern towns of Natchez, Mississippi, and Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Grand-prize drawing
At 2 p.m., the grand-prize drawing for the 2016 Senior Expo will take place. The grand prize will be a 12-day trip for two on a California Adventure, valued at more than $4,000, from Little Rock Tours.
“We are giving away prizes all day — Arkansas Traveler bingo prizes, prize drawings from our vendors every hour and our grand prize finale from Little Rock Tours,” Copley said. “You can’t lose at the Senior Expo.”
Panels
At 11 a.m., NBC Today show’s financial editor Jean Chatzky will speak about financial issues for senior citizens. At noon, Arkansas Democrat- Gazette reporter Frank Fellone will host an “Arkansas & the 2016 Presidential Election” panel. Panelists include Arkansas Democrat-Gazette columnist John Brummett, University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service dean Skip Rutherford, state Sen. Jason Rapert-R, Conway, and radio host Bill Vickery. There will also be health panels from UAMS at 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. that will cover a variety of topics.
